ZND anti-climb temporary fence panel for Seattle, WA job sites
ZND ST series anti-climb panel

Seattle construction often happens on steep, narrow lots where the sidewalk has to stay open. Around the city, light rail keeps expanding and winter storms roll in off the Pacific. Bauzaunwelt is the official ZND General Distributor in the USA. We sell ZND temporary fence panels, gates and accessories to builders, event crews and agencies across Puget Sound. We do not rent. The panels belong to you.

Seattle rules: Street Use permits and open sidewalks

Two city departments are involved. The Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) issues building permits. The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) Street Use program controls the public right-of-way. Staging materials, construction dumpsters or equipment in the right-of-way needs an SDOT permit, and construction staging and material storage go through Full Review. You apply through the Seattle Services Portal.

Seattle is strict about sidewalks. SDOT's Director's Rule on pedestrian mobility in and around work zones (DR 10-2015; ask SDOT for the current version) treats a sidewalk closure as a last resort. Sidewalks next to work sites are expected to stay open with suitable pedestrian protection, and the rule sets standards for the materials used and where they go. That affects where your fence line can sit. Check with SDOT Street Use before you set a panel near the curb. In Bellevue, Tacoma or Everett, ask that city's right-of-way office. Our panels meet common construction-site requirements, but the permit office has the final say.

What Seattle sites need

Light rail and transit construction

Sound Transit opened the full East Link connection across Lake Washington in March 2026. The West Seattle Link Extension is set to bring in construction management ahead of major contracts expected in 2027. Staging yards along corridors like these need secure perimeters. Use ST812 8' anti-climb panels, barbed wire extensions and a double sliding gate kit. Sliding gates also help on narrow lots in Capitol Hill or Ballard, where there is no room to swing a gate.

Seattle Center festivals

Bumbershoot fills Seattle Center over Labor Day weekend. Event crews use bar barriers and fixed-leg barriers for entries and queues, and ST612 panels with a pedestrian gate for secure back-of-house areas.

Windstorms and saturated ground

The City of Seattle's emergency management office notes that Puget Sound gets strong windstorms, most of them in late fall and winter, when the ground is often saturated. On wet soil, stands can sink and anchors can loosen. Use OXBLOCK heavy-duty stands or tube stands with Windbreaker stabilizers and Z-weights. If you hang a fence cover, take it down before a wind advisory.

Freight to Seattle

Freight to Seattle starts at $879 for a 12-panel order (shown live at checkout; exact rate by ZIP on request). For bigger orders, 64 panels ship from about $1,939 and a full truckload of 256 panels from about $3,969. Orders come north by LTL truck from the ZND plant in Madera, CA. We have no Washington warehouse or pickup location. To receive the delivery, you need a forklift or loading dock. On tight urban blocks, request delivery with unloading, such as a liftgate, on your quote, and check that your Street Use permit covers the truck. The minimum order is 12 panels.

Buying fence instead of renting in Seattle

We only sell. Construction fence rental in Seattle can make sense for a single short job. If your projects run for many months, as big urban and transit projects often do, or you move from site to site, owned panels are usually the better deal. New customers pay by credit card or prepayment. Public agencies can also use a government purchase card or an agency purchase order, and Net 30 terms are reserved for established customers. Bauzaunwelt is registered in SAM.gov (CAGE 21BQ4).

Seattle temporary fence FAQ

Do I need an SDOT permit for construction fence on a Seattle sidewalk?

Usually yes. Staging, storage and equipment in the public right-of-way need an SDOT Street Use permit, and SDOT's work zone rule treats sidewalk closures as a last resort with pedestrian protection kept in place. Your building permit comes from SDCI. Check with SDOT Street Use before installing.

How much does freight to Seattle cost?

Freight to Seattle starts at $879 for a 12-panel order. It is shown live at checkout, and we quote an exact rate by ZIP code on request. Orders ship by LTL truck from Madera, CA.

What do I need on site for delivery?

A forklift or loading dock. If you do not have one, request delivery with unloading, such as a liftgate, on your quote.

How do I protect fence during Puget Sound windstorms?

Most windstorms arrive in late fall and winter, when the ground is often saturated. Use heavy stands, Windbreaker stabilizers and Z-weights, connect every joint, and remove covers before wind advisories.

Is it better to rent or buy construction fence in Seattle?

Bauzaunwelt sells and does not rent. For one short job, renting may be cheaper. For long urban builds and repeat projects, owning usually costs less over time.
