Austin Transportation and Public Works (TPW) runs Right-of-Way Management. Closing or barricading part of a street or sidewalk for above-ground work requires a Temporary Use of Right-of-Way Permit, known as a TURP. According to the City, a TURP needs insurance and a $10,000 bond that stay active for the whole permit. Driveway/sidewalk and excavation work also need a ROW Contractor's License.
Traffic control has to follow the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and Austin's Transportation Criteria Manual. It must be set up by trained traffic control personnel or a barricade company. Applications go through the Austin Build + Connect (AB+C) portal. SXSW, ACL and Formula 1
ACL Fest returns to Zilker Park on October 2-4 and 9-11, 2026. The Formula 1 United States Grand Prix is at Circuit of the Americas from October 23 to 25, 2026, and SXSW 2027 runs from March 13 to 21.
