San Diego permits for fencing near the street
The City of San Diego Development Services Department requires a Right-of-Way Permit for any construction activity or privately owned encroachment in the public right-of-way. It also requires a separate Traffic Control Permit before construction starts there. According to the City, the Traffic Control Permit covers construction work that encroaches onto sidewalks, parking spaces, medians, alleys and streets, as well as temporary dumpsters or storage containers. Applications use form DS-269 and a traffic control plan, and they are filed online. If your fence line takes part of a sidewalk or a parking lane, plan for this review before you schedule delivery.
Other jurisdictions run their own permits. In unincorporated areas, the County of San Diego Department of Public Works issues encroachment permits. Cities such as Oceanside have their own traffic and encroachment permits. Fencing that stays entirely on private property is usually covered by your building or grading permit conditions. Check with the local permit office before you set up. Our panels suit common construction-site needs, but only your inspector can say what your site requires.
