How Many Temporary Fence Panels Do I Need?

ZND anti-climb temporary fence panel, 6 x 12 ft

Before you order temporary fence, you need three numbers: how many panels, how many bases and how many couplers. Here is how to work them out for a straight run and for a closed site perimeter.

Step 1: Measure the fence line

Measure every side of the area you want to enclose in feet and add them up. That total is your linear footage (LF). Leave out sections where a building or an existing wall already closes the line, and mark where you need a gate.

Step 2: Divide by the panel length

ZND panels such as the ST612VH and the 8 ft high ST812VH are 12 ft long. Divide your linear footage by 12 and round up to the next whole panel.

Our BZW premium sets use panels about 7.2 ft wide, so a 15-panel set covers 108 LF.

Step 3: Add bases and couplers

  • Straight run: one base more than panels, and one coupler per joint (panels minus one).
  • Closed perimeter: the line meets itself, so you need as many bases and couplers as panels.

ZND lines use the ZND Tube Stand and the HD Griplock coupler. On exposed or windy sites, plan stabilizers as well. We size them with you based on panel type, cladding and location.

Example 1: 300 ft straight run

  • 300 ÷ 12 = 25 panels
  • 26 bases
  • 24 couplers

Example 2: Site perimeter of 120 × 80 ft

  • Perimeter: 120 + 80 + 120 + 80 = 400 ft
  • 400 ÷ 12 = 33.3, rounded up to 34 panels
  • 34 bases and 34 couplers

Adding a gate

A gate usually takes the place of one or two panels. ZND single and double sliding gate kits convert standard panels into gates, and the gates collection has pedestrian and vehicle options.

Good to know before you order

  • ZND fence panels have a minimum order of 12.
  • Do not mix ZND and BZW components in one line. They are separate systems.
  • Freight is quoted to your delivery ZIP before you order.

Send us your linear footage, delivery ZIP and start date and we will put the panel, base and coupler count into a written quote: request a quote.
